The digitization in small and medium-sized enterprises of the construction and expansion craft is being widely investigated. In some pioneering companies, the first smart IT-based concepts for work support are currently being implemented. There exists still great potential for digital process technology to support the interchange of the construction site management and the operational back office in the construction and expansion craft. This discrepancy is often due to the rather underdeveloped media competence of the craftsmen and -women and their low acceptance of digital media.
Our aim is to support our target group to develop awareness and use of innovation tools and software systems, since these are currently changing the work environment of the construction industry at increasing speed. There is a lack of concrete didactic concepts and learning solutions for further education and training. An average construction company, with 3 to 5 employees, faces several challenges to invest and find digital solutions. As a result, digital training-on-the-job offers have remained unexploited till now. Therefore, the D-MasterGuide project reinforces the use of digital media at the master preparation training stage to efficiently integrate it in the construction and expansion craft.
A consortium of experts from the plastering handcraft, didactics and e-learning fields are working together to develop a didactic concept for media use, which will be anchored in a new learning platform. Increasing efficiency and optimizing the work process through transfer of media competence and use of innovative technologies in the field of plastering, are central to the project. Additionally, D-MasterGuide is designed to support the practical use and implementation of the actual work processes. The AWS Institute, through its expertise in the areas of e-learning, intelligent learning assistance and software development, plays the role of the technology partner in the project and provides valuable input for the development of the learning platform.
GOAL OF D-MASTERGUIDE
D-MasterGuide develops digital learning stations for the development of media competence in the construction and expansion craft. Digital learning is increasingly becoming a key component in the craft sector. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research under the domain “Digital Media in Vocational Education and Training”, the D-MasterGuide project aims to implement digital media tools to integrate into the master’s training in the construction and expansion craft. Furthermore, the project evaluates the trainee’s acceptance of the digital media tools and their learning transfer.
THE AWSi IN THE D-MASTERGUIDE PROJECT
Using the Smart Guided Learning System, the AWSi designs and develops the technological basis of the D-MasterGuide project.
The Smart Guided Learning System consists of several components, of which AWSi is responsible for Process Guidance and Social Network. Media competence will be acquired through the interactive tasks and learning content, which will be supported by process management and reflected in the Social Network through exchange with the other participating members.
As an initial step, and to receive early feedback from the learning participants, a prototype of the learning system is developed. This prototype will be used to gain valuable hands-on experience for later implementation in the master preparation stage. Accordingly, the entire system is developed iteratively.
In addition to the above, the AWSi takes over the conception and creation of the virtual-reality based Anchored Instructions in the form of content modules, which will be used in the learning stations.
