Foundation
Founded in 2014 by Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer, a pioneer in the field of business informatics, the institute of the same name is owned by the private August-Wilhelm Scheer Foundation for Science and Art. The concept: As a non-profit digitization institute, we work closely with the business world to develop future-oriented solutions and leverage the potential of digital transformation for business and society.
Research, Innovation and Recognition
With the D-MasterGuide we started our first research project, which provided important impetus for the digitalization of higher education. At the same time, we started KomZetSaar in our largest research project, which strengthened the regional economy through innovative concepts. Another highlight of the year was the Induction of Prof. Scheer into the Hall of Fame of German Research, a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding achievements in the scientific community.
Project Designetz is "Place in the Land of Ideas
The large-scale research project on the German energy transition, "DesigNetz," was honored as a "Landmark in the Land of Ideas" in 2018. The project develops solutions for an efficient, climate-friendly energy supply by flexibly adapting generation and consumption to the needs of the energy grids. The goal is to store, utilize, and integrate surplus renewable energy to create a sustainable energy system.
First EU project: ETN Perform
EU Project ETN Perform – Grand Agreement reached us around August 29.08.2019, 01.08.2019 – the project started on August XNUMX, XNUMX. The PERFORM network is a European training program focused on the digitalization of retail. It offers interdisciplinary doctoral programs that develop solutions for digital transformation in retail to improve the customer experience. To this end, new business models, technologies, and processes are explored that enable the integration of e-commerce, brick-and-mortar retail, and innovative technologies such as mixed reality.

Entrepreneurship Saar is a practice-oriented talent program that supports young people in discovering and developing their entrepreneurial skills. In a compact period of four weeks, participants are prepared for real challenges through practical use cases, coaching and teamwork. The program promotes the development of entrepreneurial potential and offers a unique opportunity to turn ideas into innovative solutions - supported by a personality test and professional coaches.

The Center for Digital Green Tech has been our location in Lower Saxony since 2021. The focus of this innovation center is on digitization projects that drive sustainability and ecological change. Our main topics are smart energy, smart water cycles and smart circular economies. Digitization is particularly important here: We believe that the transformation of industrial processes from a linear to a circular economy will only succeed with digitization.
Prof. Scheer becomes honorary citizen of the state capital Saarbrücken
In 2022, Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer was named an honorary citizen of the state capital Saarbrücken. The honor was presented at a ceremony on May 20, 2022, which recognized his services to the region and his significant contributions to the economic and scientific development of Saarland.
Largest industrial project and awards from Prof. Scheer
In 2023, the institute's largest industrial project, the HTI project, started with a funding amount of €298.951,80. In addition, the EDIH project was launched with the official project start on January 1, 2023.
Special recognition went to Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer: He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Widener University in Philadelphia and received the Rudolf Diesel Medal for the “Most Successful Innovation Achievement”.
