Industrial energy consumption accounts for one-third of society’s total energy consumption. In energy-intensive industries such as chemicals, oil refining, iron and steel production, and pulp and paper production, energy systems are the backbone of the manufacturing process and crucial to profitability and competitiveness.

Digitization means that power grids can no longer be viewed solely in physical terms. Future Prosumer Houshold

Due to the generally advancing electrification of household appliances as well as the continuously growing number of generation and storage systems in households, such as energy storage and electric vehicles, the flexibility potential of households is constantly increasing. This flexibility potential is becoming more and more important in view of the increasing volatility of the power grids. Grid operators are increasingly facing major challenges with regard to the stable and secure operation of their grids as a result of the change in electricity grids. In the future, it will therefore be an important lever to tap the flexibility potential of households for grid stabilization and thus to exchange the hitherto passive role of households in the energy grid for an active role. In this way, every household can contribute to the secure operation of the power grids in the future and, as Future Prosumer Households, play a central role in achieving the energy transition.

However, the concept does not end with private households. In the future, companies from all disciplines will also use their flexibilities to stabilize the grid and thus transform themselves into Future Prosumer Factories, for example.

Research on Activation of Flexibility Potentials in a Market-oriented Process.

The activation of existing flexibilities is a crucial component in meeting the challenges of the energy transition. The potential for flexibility is steadily increasing due to the spread of electromobility, home storage, and photovoltaic systems in private households, among other things. As a result, pure consumers of electrical energy are increasingly becoming producers as well. The active integration of these participants as a building block of the smart grid is an efficient and effective solution to emerging problems. This paper examines and compares current research approaches in the German electricity market.

The energy market of tomorrow - for all and with all.

The main objective of the “FlexChain” research project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, is to enable active participation in the energy system. For this purpose, a decentralized trading platform based on blockchain is being created that dynamically adapts energy generation, storage and consumption according to the needs of local and urban grids. In this way, the supply of households and stability of the grids will also be ensured from renewable energy sources.
