Digital Qualification & Individualized Education

The ever-increasing digitalisation of everyday working life has been a much-discussed topic for years and is becoming increasingly relevant. With the help of the search engine Google Scholar, 2,700 scientific publications from 2018 alone can be found under the search term Digitization of the Working World. This progressive technological change places new demands on employees and employers. The handling of digital technologies has become an integral part of a multitude of different professions. It is therefore not surprising that the European Commission has classified digital media competence as a key element of lifelong learning.

Digital learning – a challenge and an opportunity. New forms of eLearning will have a formative influence on education and further training. Knowledge will become more widely accessible and more individual. Shorter life cycles require more intensive and more frequent further training. Answers are needed for this. For example, in the form of metacoaching about where, how and in what way knowledge in a domain can be consumed at an optimised speed. In addition, there are the new possibilities in the field of inclusion. For people with disabilities, everyday life in education is currently not without obstacles and, in particular, vocational training and integration is often made more difficult by physical limitations.

In its publication “Guidelines for Educational Policy”, the German Commission for UNESCO states with regard to inclusive education systems that all “[…] people worldwide […] should have access to high-quality education. Everyone must be enabled to develop their potential. Digitalisation, together with technological progress, offers the possibility of breaking down barriers and building a bridge to professional integration, so that everyone, regardless of their disabilities, has a chance to develop and use their skills.
