Solutions are being developed on how to implement a climate-friendly, secure and efficient energy supply with high shares of fluctuating power generation from wind and solar energy.

2

The project is creating a blueprint for efficient data and flexibility management that is intended to be transferable on a large scale throughout Germany.

3

Flexibility management means that energy-generating plants and consumers dynamically adjust their generation, consumption or storage behavior according to the needs of the energy networks.

In a nutshell

What?

With the Designetz project, an entire energy system is being created from previous individual solutions. The core of Designetz is the optimal use of so-called flexibilities. The term describes the potential of energy-generating plants and consumers to dynamically adjust their generation, consumption or storage behavior according to the needs of the energy networks or the energy market. In order to make sensible use of these, surpluses from renewable energies are made available to urban and industrial load centers as needed, stored or converted with the help of sector coupling.

How?

In order to research and develop this concept, around 30 demonstration projects in three German states have been integrated into an overall grid as a blueprint for the year 2035. Due to the increasing number of plants in the field of renewable energies, intelligent networking and the transparent exchange of energy industry data are becoming more and more important. The focus here is on an open, flexible but also secure IT infrastructure that allows data to be exchanged easily and new players and plants to be integrated.

The energy transition is a central topic of our time and offers great ecological, economic and social opportunities. At the same time, the growing and irregularly recurring share of renewable energies in energy generation also brings enormous challenges for the energy industry. In particular, the planning and operation of energy networks is becoming significantly more complex due to the decentralized generation structure of renewable energies. In order to ensure a secure, efficient and powerful energy supply in the future, new models and technologies must be developed.

data & services platform

The August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute is developing the basic component:

Database for the energy network of the future. A database with corresponding services is being developed, which will form the backbone of the IT structure.

Flex Cockpit. A system is being developed for monitoring and, in the future, managing energy flexibilities.

Work package management of data and service platform. Together with the DFKI and the work package partners, the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute coordinates the development of the integrated, uniform, open and secure data and service platform for the management of energy data.
