The AWS-Institute for Digital Products and Processes (AWSi) promotes innovation and application-oriented research transfer at an international level. The institute focuses on the gradual and disruptive digitization of economy and society. As an independent research institute, we work on developing new technologies and anticipating business models.
We attach great importance to the close integration of research, innovation and practice. We are located on the campus of the Saarland University, one of the best German universities in the field of computer science. The CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) are located in the immediate vicinity.
About the AWS-Institute
The AWS-Institute for Digital Products and Processes (AWSi) was founded in 2014 with the aim of promoting innovation and application-oriented research transfer at an international level. The institute focuses on the digitization of the economy and society.
Our approach to innovation
Innovations are not only new ideas and technologies, but also the generation of economic impact. This is precisely the aim of our work. We are an innovation centre that makes digital transformation possible. We quickly and efficiently develop prototypes from our concepts, which we test with partners and end users. In this way, our solutions are continuously improved in an iterative process. This is how we create marketable products.
We distinguish two forms of digitization
The focus of our work lays on both gradual and disruptive digitization in various industries, such as industry, consulting and education.
Gradual digitization describes a continuous process in which existing products are converted into digital products.
Disruptive digitization deals with the question of which products and processes become redundant due to digitization and how they can be replaced.
The AWSi considers itself as a start-up forge that offers support in conception, a network into the business world and the space for controlled testing of business ideas in a collaborative environment. The AWS Institute is an innovation center that anticipates future trends and combines research with business practice.
